    Ranma 1/2 (2024)

Super cute anime that is really fun you watch.

But this anime is built around one little quirk, and once you get used to that quirk, it’s a less engaging. The quirk is that the father-son duo can turn into a panda-girl duo if splashed with cold water.

This quirk is really funny and leads to a bunch of funny interactions at the start. But you grow used to it quickly and then it’s not as funny.

The story does progress though. It doesn’t feel like the show will be stretched out in order to make more money. If that were to happened, I might have trouble finishing the show.

  • Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines

    Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines

Visually Stunning, But Lacking in Substance

Makeine delivers shockingly high-quality animation for a series that hasn’t quite broken into mainstream popularity. Some shots are so incredibly beautiful, it’s hard to believe this much talent was dedicated to a show with such a simple premise.

Early on, the series is packed with humor and creativity. Each episode felt fresh, with clever editing and use of music that made the viewing experience genuinely fun and engaging. But as we grow accustomed to the characters, the novelty begins to wear off, and so does the comedy.

It almost feels like the creators started running out of ideas. Once the character introductions and basic development were done, the absence of a compelling overarching plot became impossible to ignore. The episodes became less engaging, and while the animation remained impressive, the team seemed less experimental and more reserved with their visuals as the series progressed, almost like they were losing interest in the show.

It’s still a good show, but it could have been amazing with a better story. There’s still so much potential for deeper character development, a melancholic character development arc could add so much value to the show. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like the show is headed in that direction.

Often times, the show begins to introduce more characters with interesting personalities at this point, perhaps to keep engagement high, but it would be so much cooler to send the main character through an emotional arc now. His character is perfect for such an arc.

    Complaint

I couldn’t tell which name belonged to which person, sometimes first name would be used and sometimes second name would be used. It is nice that the show doesn’t over-explain and lets the viewer figure things out as the story is progressing, but it was confusing.

  • Lazarus

    Lazarus

An extremely well animated, well dubbed, well choreographed and well directed waste of my time.

It didn’t matter how well every other piece was crafted, at the end of the day the story was mediocre and was told poorly told. Almost every episode felt like a filler episode, only slightly aiding to progress the story. More focus was instead paid to making cool looking action sequences.

The series is still on-going. Maybe the next few episodes will make it all worth it. But presently I wouldn’t feel the need to recommend the series to anyone.

I can’t really figure out what’s wrong though. Something similar was done in John Wick, it was a splendid success, and I really loved it too. Maybe it was the feeling that the main characters were in no real risk of death or serious injury. I never felt much excitement or fear during the fights.

There was a sequence where a main character almost lost an arm, you would be shocked for a quick second, after which you would remember again that nothing serious would ever happen to the main characters. The crew would jump into dangerous situations left and right as if nothing could hurt them.

It was quite well animated though. All the background characters had were pretty well written too. It’s just that most of the episodes felt unnecessary.

  • Dorohedoro

    Dorohedoro

    Unique!

From the starting to the end Dorohedoro has been so unique in almost every way that you just want to keep watching and see what happens next.

The world is so different, so violent and so mysterious, but so believable. The world building in Dorohedoro is fantastic.

Caiman has a lizard head, why?

    – Dunno.

There’s another person inside Caiman’s mouth, what’s that about?

    – No clue.

    What is happening?

    – Sure hope we’ll find out.

There are so many things that aren’t explained in the story, but it all adds to the mystery element, only making us more engaged in the story. Seeing people live normal happy lives even as the whole world looks like it’s coming apart around them also adds character to the show.

Writing: Very good. The characters are so easy to like and world build around them so easy to believe.

World Building: While mysterious, brutal and chaotic, the world that been crafted is very well made. Caiman has spikes on his head so when he sleeps, the pillow sticks to his head. Caiman also brushes his lizard teeth just as normal people do. The main characters have normal jobs, hobbies and lives just as any normal person would have. The

Excitement: The main characters are not invulnerable at all. There is a very real risk of something really bad happening to one of them, and because of this there are no fights where you can just sit back and enjoy the show, something serious could happen in the next 30 minutes.

    Sound: Excellent. Excellent dubbing too.

Music: Great. But some songs have meaningless lyrics with words thrown together seemingly at random.

Age Restricted: Yes. A guy dies a very gruesome death in the first 3 minutes of the show. It will give you an idea of what sort of violence to expect from the rest of the show.

    Should you watch it?

    – If you can stomach some blood and violence, then yes.

  • Devilman Crybaby

    Devilman Crybaby

I believe this was the anime I recommended to the most number of people. Most didn’t really give it a shot though.

My main selling point was that the entire runtime was only around 3 hours. Only a little longer than a movie.

It can be quite disturbing though, perhaps I should recommend this less.
